The National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association will begin the task of seeking new leadership this March and April after longtime Commissioner Roger Walters gave his official notice at the association’s winter board meeting in December. Commissioner Walter’s will not actually leave the position until December of 2021, but the board would like to have the replacement named in June so that the successful candidate will have the opportunity to strategize with the current commissioner and transition into the position with key sponsors and the College National Finals Rodeo committee.
The appointment of the commissioner is handled by the NIRA’s Executive Committee and then forwarded to the full board for a final determination. The decision will be made after an interview process at the 2021 Summer Board Meeting held at the College National Finals Rodeo in June, in Casper, Wyoming. The dates for those interviews are potentially scheduled for June 17-18, 2021, but official dates are not yet finalized.
Interested parties can find a full job description on the NIRA’s website, www.collegerodeo.com. The position will close on May 1, 2021.
