The family and friends of Rachel Hendrix, a former NIRA member and student at Southern Utah University, who passed away in 2014, have created a memorial scholarship to honor Rachel. Two $1,500 scholarship awards will be donated to one boy and one girl for the 2015-2016 school year.
Rachel Hendrix excelled in all aspects of her life; school, church, social circles, extra-curricular activities and especially in her passion of life – Rodeo. She was not successful due to her skill and intellect, but her drive, determination, and passion for the sport and her beloved horses. In an effort to preserve and sanctify Rachel’s passion for rodeo the committee of the Rachel Hendrix Memorial Rodeo Scholarship ask for applicants that share a similar love and commitment to the sport of our western heritage. Regardless of skill level, experience or prestige, any high school rodeo competitor with a love of rodeo and that exemplifies commitment to the work required and the fervor of preserving our western roots is a worthy applicant of this special scholarship.
The scholarship is open to college students who have completed their first year of college and have at least one year of college remaining. Students must have a G.P.A. of 3.2 – 3.7, and been a member of the Nevada or Utah State High School Rodeo Associations.
Applicants are to include official transcripts, resume, and a 300 word, or less, essay on their enthusiasm and zeal for the sport of rodeo. Please include any western heritage or lineage, as well as extra-curricular activities, religious activity involvement, and other hobbies. Please submit three separate copies of the application, and return to: Rachel Hendrix Memorial Rodeo Scholarship Fund, c/o DFM, PO Box 5611, Fallon, Nevada, 89407.
